Dad was a lifetime resident of Port Angeles. He was born on November 4, 1949, and passed away unexpectedly in his home on February 9, 2013.
Dad received his Associate of Arts from Western Washington University and then transferred to Wenatchee Valley Community College to continue his education and play baseball. This is where he fell in love with our mom, Lucy Garcia.
They married on July 10, 1971, and returned to Port Angeles, where he began logging and working at Rayonier Mill while he was achieving his goal of becoming a gemologist.
He was certified by the Gemological Institute of America in 1980. Shortly after, he took over the family business and became the third-generation owner of Filion Jewelers until it closed in 1995. He continued with jewelry repair services for local businesses and some longtime customers until his passing.
He was a lifetime member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, as well as a member of Mount Pleasant Grange, Eagles Aerie No. 483 and Elks Naval Lodge BPOE No. 353.
He was a loving father and father-in-law to Nancy Filion and Patrick Collins of Seattle, Jackie and Andy Millican of Poulsbo, Washington, Frankie Priest and Jess Galland of Port Angeles, and Jacob Filion of Poulsbo. He was also a proud "Papa" to Tate, AJ and Jaden Priest, Taylor and Jake Galland, and Brady and Miles Millican.
We know that our cousin Jason Robert Filion has been waiting with a fishing pole in hand ready to take on the many adventures the two of them had planned. Jason passed away from leukemia in 1987.
Aside from spending time with his family, he had a great love for the outdoors. Whether he was up in the mountains, out at the cabin or down by the water, Dad could never get enough of the Olympic Peninsula.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, 5130 40th Avenue Northeast, Seattle, WA 98105.
