Mr. James Dougherty of Port Angeles passed away at Olympic Medical Center from prostate cancer on June 16, 2014.

He was born in Butternut, Wisconsin, to Theodore Harley and Rose (Koutensky) Dougherty on October 1, 1937.

He moved with his family to the Olympic Peninsula at an early age. He attended Queen of Angels School in Port Angeles and received his GED while serving our nation with the U.S. Navy.

He served in the Navy from 1954 through 1958 as a refrigeration mechanic on the USS Bryce Canyon.

He worked for James River for five years before he went into business as Jim's Refrigeration Service in 1967. He sold his business in 1999 when he retired.

On September 4, 1959, he married the love of his life, Elaine Rayment.

Jim loved to go camping, fishing and hunting. In his later years, he became a snowbird, traveling south to Yuma, Arizona, in the winter. He also loved to care for his yard and garden. His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his family.

He was a member of Queen of Angels Church and was a member of the Eagles and the Moose lodges, as well as a lifetime member of the Elks. He also belonged to the Ediz Hookers Camper Club.

He leaves behind his son, Brian Dougherty of Bonney Lake, Washington; daughter Tonya (Nick) Gear of Port Angeles; brothers Ted (Margaret), Edward and his partner, Kathy, Howard and his partner, Sharon, Eugene and Daniel (Meridith), all of Port Angeles; sister Eldora Matthews of Port Angeles; and sister-in-law Inez Dougherty of Edgewood, Washington.

Jim also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Zachery, Tyler, Andy and Emily Gear, all of Port Angeles; great-grandchild Bentley James Gear, also of Port Angeles; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends who shared their love and support during his illness.

His passing has reunited him with his parents; brother Robert Dougherty; sister Elizabeth Matthews and her husband, Bert Matthews; and his brother-in-law, Floyd Matthews.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 20, at Queen of Angels, 209 West 11th Street, Port Angeles. A rosary will be recited prior to the service at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow the service at the church.

Memorial contributions would best serve the community through Volunteer Hospice of Clallam County, 540 East Eighth Street, Port Angeles, WA 98362.
