EDITH CAROLINE "DEEDEE" SALATAS
1919 - 2014
Edith Caroline "DeeDee" Salatas, age 94, of Pensacola, Florida went home to be with the Lord on April 25, 2014. She was born in Kossuth, Mississippi on June 04, 1919, to Ella Ross and Leander "W" Dickson. At a young age she moved with her family to Corinth, Mississippi where she had her first job at a hosiery factory and completed high school. She later relocated to Northwest Florida where she was a civil service employee at the Naval Air Station for more than thirty years. She was married to Peter A. Salatas from 1951 until she was widowed with no children in 1969.
Neighbors experienced her warmth and caring when they were blessed with her homemade cooking. Family and friends admired her feisty personality, her witty sense of humor, and her independence and good stewardship. She and her sister shared regular "tee"-times at Osceola Golf Course with many friends. Her other interests were ceramics, crocheting, keeping meticulous flower beds and lawn, including mowing her own grass into her eighties; but, of all her joys, baseball was her favorite.
She is survived by her best friend and younger sister, Margaret "Dixie" Forte, niece, Donna (Gene) Roberts, nephew, Ross Douglas (Rosemary) Forte, nephew, Max (Martha) Dickson, niece, Betty Puckett, and many great nieces and nephews, and their children and grand-children.
A private graveside ceremony, officiated by Gene Roberts, was held on May 02, 2014 at Bayview Memorial Park. Her sister, Dixie Forte, shared a touching personal story. Her great-nieces, Laura Bell of Phoenix, Arizona and Paige Eilertson, of Swansboro, North Carolina both shared their fond memories, life lessons, and love for DeeDee. A personal tribute from good friend and neighbor, Linda Kilpatrick, was also read. A favorite hymn, "O Victory In Jesus" was sung.
She will truly be missed by all.

I worked with Edith at NAS for many years and she was my buddie. Loved her witty sense of humor. She talked a lot about her family. She loved all of you dearly. I recognized most of the names especially Betty, Donna, and Ross Douglas.
