Roy Ramsey Froom ROY RAMSEY FROOM (December 8, 1924-June 18, 2016) Roy Ramsey Froom, 91, died Saturday after a long battle with dementia. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Roy Bernard Froom and Stella Minerva Watson. He spent his childhood in Pensacola, FL, where he became an Eagle Scout in 1940. After graduating from Pensacola High School in 1942 he became an American citizen and was drafted into the army, serving in a M.A.S.H. unit in London during World War II. He returned in 1946, pursued a degree in architecture at Auburn University and graduated in 1952. He moved to Mobile, joining the firm of Platt Roberts & Company, which later became A.B. Benson & Company. He married the love of his life, Barbara Annette Billingsley, in 1958; ten years later Froom and two partners, Bill Donnell and Charlie Rogers formed Donnell, Froom & Rogers. He was a founding member of the Spanish Fort Presbyterian Church, served as a deacon, an elder and long-time volunteer on the church's building and grounds committee. After retiring in 1989 he took a number of classes at the University of South Alabama, was a volunteer tutor for the Eastern Shore Literacy Council and became a Master Gardner. He was a lifelong learner, avid photographer, fisherman, jazz aficionado, frustrated gardener, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He and Barbara moved to Memphis, TN in 2010 to be closer to their daughter and her family. He was preceded in death by his parents as well as older brother, Clifford Froom. He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Anne Froom Jones, her husband John and their children Frances and Phillip, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Idlewild Presbyterian Church chapel in Memphis on Saturday, June 25 at 10:00am.
