Erlene Gibson Obituary
1932-2008Erlene Jernigan Gibson, 75, loving mother and grandmother passed away on Friday, July 4, 2008 in Winchester, VA.
A celebration of her life was held at Riverton United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. conducted by Rev. Michael Derflinger and Rev. Ron Mills. A reception followed at the service in the church fellowship hall.
Mrs. Gibson was born August 8, 1932 in Pensacola, FL daughter of the late Albert Edward and Evelyn Thompson Jernigan. She was a member of Riverton United Methodist Church and was a volunteer for Second Chance Thrift Store. She was the wife of the late Aubrey R. Gibson, Jr. to whom she was married to for 55 years.
Surviving are one son Michael Gibson of Middletown and his friend Ruthie Hamman of Front Royal; three daughters Dianne Whittington and husband Sonny, Debra E. Boyles and husband David all of Front Royal, Michele Henry and husband David Lee of Mineral, VA, and a "fourth daughter" Karen Miller and husband Donnie of Front Royal; four brothers Herbert Jernigan, Wendell Jernigan, and Richard Jernigan all of Pace, FL, and Larry Jernigan of Albany, GA,; one sister Ethel Cresawn of Valley, AL; twelve grandchildren Casey Winn of Winchester, Chris Winn and wife Katy of Seattle, WA, Cassi and Chance Whittington of Front Royal, Elithia Cornwell of Culpeper, Amanda Renner and husband Steve of Front Royal, Josh Gibson and wife Valerie of Marshall, Janele Gibson of Nashville, NC, Jessie Cunningham and husband Matt of Roanoke City, Bo Boyles and wife Alicia of Front Royal, Lee Henry and wife Sarah of Mineral and Amber Owens and husband Josh of Mineral; 16 great-grandchildren; and her extended family of staff members and employees of Amerisist in Front Royal. In addition to her husband and parents she was preceded in death by a grandson Stephen Michael Henry; three brothers Robert F. Jernigan, Lamar Jernigan, Aubrey Jernigan; one sister Dorothy Hopkins; and a "second son" Jimmy Isner.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society, 2654 Valley Ave., Suite B, Winchester, VA 22601, or to the International Rett Syndrome Foundation, 4600 Devitt Drive, Cincinnati, OH, 45246.
Arrangements are by Maddox Funeral Home, Inc. in Front Royal.

The Gibson Family
I was very sad to hear of Erlene's passing. I did not know she or Aubrey very well however I always enjoyed speaking with them when they came in FRFCU. They were always smiling and laughing and always speaking about what a wonderful family they had. I admired them both for raising a terrific family. My thoughts & prayers are with the entire family.
