Charles Hugh (Bud) Mahoney

Charles Hugh (Bud) Mahoney, age 71, of Niceville, passed away the night of November 8, 2013, at Superior Residences of Niceville. He was a native of Boston and grew up in Malden, MA. He was predeceased by his parents Edward F. and Kathryn E Mahoney and by his beloved brother Paul Mahoney. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Renate Mahoney (nee Rehr) of Niceville, and by his sister Kathryn E. Mahoney of Melrose, MA, his brothers Edward F. Mahoney of North Andover, Ma, John and Bernadette Mahoney of Rochester, NH, and by his brother-in-law Michael F. and sister-in-law Marian Rehr of Ajax, Ontario, and sister-in-law Inge Schaumann of Mannheim, Germany.

After a career in the Air Force, he attained his Bachelor of Business Science at the University of Syracuse then worked as a computer specialist at the Eglin AFB Mathematics Laboratory until his retirement in 2004. He had a brilliant mind and comprehended analytical concepts easily. He was compassionate and had a great sense of humor. His passions were the Boston Red Sox, reading, listening to jazz and classical rock, political satire, and the outdoors. He enjoyed social gatherings with his family and friends, good food and fine wine. His lively wit and political acumen as well as his ritual making of Feuerzangenbowle (hot spiced wine) at Christmas will be greatly missed by his friends and family.
