Claude Alvin Gay

1937-2013

Claude Alvin "Al" Gay, Sr, 75, of Pace, FL went home to be with his Savior, on Saturday, January 5, 2013 after a long battle with COPD and lung cancer.

Al was born in Ellisville, FL , on February 27, 1937. He joined the United States Navy in 1954. He met his wife, Bobbie, while stationed at Corry Field, they married on January 3, 1958, and she was the love of his life. They celebrated 55 years on Thursday. His family was important to him and he led by example instead of words.

He served 22 years with stints in Vietnam, Korea, and various overseas locations. He was a member of the USN Blue Angels (Aircraft Hydraulic Mechanic) from '69-70. He served his country with pride and honor and was honorably retired October of '74. His sons followed in his footsteps and also served and retired from the military.

Mr. Gay was a member of Lawton Street Baptist Church for many years until he was unable to attend. He will be missed by all of his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Florence Gay, and his daughter, Robin.

Al is survived by his wife, Bobbie, and his children, Rhonda (Bill) Allers, Al (Anita) Gay, Renee (Randy) Michael, and Chris (Sherrie) Gay. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, Adam Allers, Carmen (Joshua) VanWyngaarden , Joshua (Brittany) Lollie, Brittany (Andrew) Gorman, Tristan Bardin, Heather Bardin, and Rachel Lollie of. He had three Great-Grandsons, Conner Allers, , Gavin and Trevor VanWynGaarden. His brother and sister, Alfred (Dot) Gay and Bonnie Newhouse.

Funeral Services for Al will be held at 1 pm on Friday, January 11,2013, at the Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel at 4777 West Spencer Field Road, Pace, FL, with Pastor Clarence Brockman officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral services in the Memory Park Cemetery with Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel directing. The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 pm on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Lewis Funeral Home, Pace Chapel.
