Richard Edward Thayer

Richard Edward Thayer, 81, of Pensacola, Florida died on Saturday November 9th at the residence of his daughter, Catheryn Jill Simpson (David) of Aiken, South Carolina after an extended illness. Richard Thayer was affectionately known as Uncle Dick to his many friends, nieces and nephews. He was married to the late Betty Webb Thayer of Pensacola and is survived by a son, Lance E. Thayer (Jerrie) of La Porte, Texas and a son, Joseph D. Thayer (Anna) of Milton, Florida in addition to his daughter. He leaves eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. He is survived by a brother, Don Thayer (Carol) of Michigan, a sister, Jill Smith of Michigan and a sister, Joyce Ross (Jim) of Utah. Dick grew up in Clare, Michigan. He lived a colorful life as large as his good humor and compassion for his fellow man. A Vietnam Veteran; he served his country as Major RE Thayer USMC. He was a member of Voiture Locale 1571 of Grand du Florida 40&8, the American Legion Post 340, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 557, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Aerie 3483 and a life member of the VFW Post 5738 in Clare, Michigan. In accordance with Dick's final wishes, a Spring Memorial service is planned with internment at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola Florida. He asks we remember him as a friend to man.
