Elise Humphrey Morgan, 78, of Pensacola, FL, died Sunday, March 2, 2014.
Mrs. Morgan was born on September 8, 1935 in Tallahassee, FL. She graduated from Florida State with a bachelor's and University of West Florida with a master's in elementary education. She taught in public elementary schools in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties for 32 years. Mrs. Morgan was honored also to have taught Adult Basic Education and English as a Second Language at PJC and to supervise teaching interns at UWF as an adjunct professor. She was ordained as one of the first women elders at First Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, and also active in Navarre and Trinity Presbyterian churches. She was a lover of nature, politics, travel, Girl Scouts, Broadway musicals, her church families and books of all kinds. She cherished her camaraderie with Chi Omega and Delta Kappa Gamma sisters. She took pride in being a yellow dog Democrat and was known throughout the panhandle of Florida for her sense of humor, her laughter, and her fierce loyalty and love to friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents D. Mack and Norma Wooten Humphrey Jr.; a brother Robert L. Eaton and his wife Jane; and two nephews, Paul Morrison and John Eaton.
Survivors include husband, John E. Morgan of Pensacola; daughters, Nan M. Adams of Elkhart, IN, and Martha B. (Kim) Morgan of Montgomery, AL; sister-in-law Beverly M. (Bob) Morrison of Pensacola; nephew Tom (Susan) Eaton and niece Becky Eaton (Randy) Amos of Tallahassee; niece Suzanne Morrison (Jimmy) Davis of Monroeville, AL; granddaughter Morgan Adams (Greg) Tredo of Ormond Beach, FL; honorary daughters Kathy Klauss of Navarre and Allison Donaghy Hawthorne of Williamsburg, VA, numerous grand nieces and nephews; and cousin/best friend Lolly Yeagar Pomeroy Weir of Tallahassee.
A Memorial Service will be held 11:00am, Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Pensacola, with a reception to follow, the Rev. Dr. Hugh Hamilton and the Rev. Anghaarad Teague Dees officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Immanual Presbyterian Church, 8790 Vaughn Road, Montgomery, AL, 36117. Special thanks to the staff of Carpenter's Creek and Emerald Coast Hospice for their care and love during Elise's declining health.
