Ernest K. Thames, Jr.
Ernest, age 82, went to sleep in our Lord at his home on Friday, April 26.
He was a native of Pensacola, born on April 3, 1931 to Ernest and Sophrona Thames. He married his childhood sweetheart, Rose. They had one son, Gregory.
Ernie served four years with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict
, after which he returned to work as a lineman with Gulf Power Company and remained there for 42 years, retiring in 1993. He loved baseball, fishing, and frying fish for many gatherings at church, home and at work. He was also an avid guitar music enthusiast. His sense of humor endeared him to many.
He is survived by Rose, his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Rene, three grandsons, four great-grandchildren, and twenty-three nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Billy.
Special thanks go to his primary caregiver, Deborah Gibbes as well as Cyndi, Annette and Harriet.
Ernie loved his church and served it in many capacities over 60 years.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 30, from 5 to 7 PM with Trisagion Service at 6 PM. Funeral service will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 1700 West Garden Street with Fr. Matthew Carter officiating. Interment will be at Barrancas National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
