Frederick Fox Jr.(1946 - 2014)

Frederick Michael

(Mike) Fox, Jr.

March 4, 1946

March 2, 2014

Frederick Michael (Mike) Fox, Jr., devoted husband, father and brother, passed away on Sunday, March 2, 2014.

Mike was born in Pensacola, FL, but grew up primarily in Waterford, VA, with his sister, Wendy. As the son of a naval aviator, he and his sister moved often and enjoyed visits to various U.S. National Parks and fishing spots around the country.

Mike had an illustrious career as a naval aviator, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was a patriotic man, who was routinely moved to tears upon hearing the song "Proud to be an American", and who loved to see the Blue Angels perform.

While his professional accomplishments were notable, his true passion in life was his family. He cherished his wife of 41 years, Mary Frances (Mulcahey) Fox. A true romantic at heart, he never failed to bring her flowers or express his love to her. He once even dug up their entire yard in an (ultimately successful) effort to locate her engagement ring, which had mistakenly been flushed down the toilet.

He also loved being a father to his 6 children and his 12 grandchildren and nothing brought him more joy than being with them. His children will remember him for his gregarious, spontaneous personality, his ability to fix anything with duct tape, and his penchant for great steak and seafood dinners. They will also remember family boating outings (where the motor frequently did not start), and family road trips together. Most of all, they will remember that he was a kind and loving man, who loved their mother dearly and was always happy to express just how proud he was of them. He taught them to love deeply and laugh often, and for that, his children are forever grateful.

Mike leaves behind Mary Frances Fox, his beloved wife, and 6 children: Frederick Michael Fox, III (Sarah), Elizabeth Savarese (Greg), Chrissy Roussel (Seth), Maryellen Kanode (Joe), Patrick Fox (Katie) and Steven Fox (Laura). He loved his 12 grandchildren deeply: Anna, Grace, Porter, Julia, Lucy, Molly, Cora, Isla, Emily, Kate, Sadie and Aubrey. He also leaves behind his sister, Wendy Bauer, and her children, Jennifer and Christopher Bauer.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick M. Fox, Sr. and Dorothy Fox (Reese).

Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to United Services Organization, Inc. (USO) in support of U.S. military personnel and their families. Donations may be made at or mailed to USO, P.O. Box 96322, Washington, D.C. 20090-6322.

His family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sacred Heart Hospital for their kindness and care during the last two years.
