Harvey "Ray" Smith(1970 - 2013)

Harvey Ray Smith

On May 5, 2013, Harvey "Ray" Smith, 43, was lifted from this world and taken to be seated next to his Momma and Daddy in heaven. Ray was born on April 8, 1970 and grew up in Pace, FL.

As a child he loved riding his trick bike, and tearing things a part, so he could put them back together. And as he got a little older he developed a passion for cars and just about anything mechanical.

Ray has often been referred to as a genius, a true jack-of-all trades, and even MacGyver. There was literally nothing he couldn't do or figure out. He was incredibly resourceful, and you could always count on him.

If you needed someone to come to your rescue, you called Ray and he would show up in his big, green Tahoe. It didn't matter what it was, Ray would try to help.

In fact, his willingness to help made him a bit of a workaholic. If he wasn't on the clock working for Ellis Crane Works, he was working on something for a friend or family member.

And when he wasn't doing that, he would be working into the wee hours of the morning remodeling the house his parents left him. He was so proud of the work he was doing, and would often call people over to take a look.

For fun, Ray enjoyed going out to Ski Beach in his boat that he built piece by piece from the hull up. When you heard the train horns on the river you knew Ray Smith was coming around the bend with a smile on his face.

There is so much to say about Ray, and he has touched so many peoples lives. Things will definitely never ever be the same without him.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, John and Glenna Smith.

Ray is survived by: his girlfriend, Kelly Campbell; daughters, Summer Merricks (Chris), Erica Smith (Terry), Brittany Smith (Robbie), and Saylin Smith; grandchildren, Nalie, Aliyana, Aajalei, Christian, Tianna, Bostyn, and Bentley; brother, John "Eric" Smith (B.J.); nieces and nephew, Becca, John Ashton "Bubby", and Hannah; his raccoon, Bandit; and a multitude of friends and extended family.

Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until funeral service begins at 12 noon all on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Pace Assembly of God Church, Pace, FL.

Pallbearers: Chuck Brewer, Doyle Ellis, Stephen Enfinger, Wesley Mabire, Glenn Norris, and Tim Vaughn.
