James Emerson MacFarland
James Emerson MacFarland, known by all who loved him as Jim, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 in Pensacola, Florida at the age of 66. James was born on March 5, 1947 in Detroit, Michigan. His occupation was in nursing, a job for which he was perfectly suited. It brought great joy to Jim to be able to care for those who were sick or in need, as well as to assist and care for families in any way he could. Being a Navy veteran and having served in Vietnam, Jim held great pride for his Country and for those who serve. He knew that it is through those who put their lives on the line that we are able to live in a free country. Although, he saw firsthand the high price of freedom, he served his Country. For his service, he earned four medals, one of which was a purple heart
. For that, we salute him even now.
He had a love for the outdoors, especially when it came to his favorite pastime of fishing. No matter what was biting (or not biting), Jim seemed to always have the right bait. Sometimes the right bait did not include catching any fish at all; rather his catch was the time he spent with his family and friends.
Special thanks are sent to his many friends at The Haven & Sacred Heart Hospital with whom he worked over the years. And for those who took such gracious care of him while it was his turn to be a patient.
Jim is survived by his wife of 19 years, Jackie MacFarland; son, Christopher MacFarland of Pensacola, Florida; sister, Karen Lucas of DeLand, Florida; nephew, Johnnie (Cynthia) Lucas of Kentucky; great nephew, Oliver Lucas of Kentucky; father & mother-in-law, Archie & Frances Miller of Pensacola, Florida; special friends, Derek & Jennifer Scalla, Exie Brown and Zola Thibodaux; as well as extended family and a host of wonderful friends.
Visitation will be held Thursday, February 6, 2014 from 3:30pm - 4:30pm at Faith Chapel Funeral Home South with the funeral service to follow at 4:30pm.
