James R. "Jim" Avery



1932 - 2014

James R. "Jim" Avery, 82, of Pensacola, died Saturday, April 05, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a very kind and gentle soul.

Jim was born January 15, 1932 in Webster, Massachusetts to Thomas J. Avery and Esther A. Avery. He served in the U. S. Navy as a Senior Photo Chief before retiring. Upon his retirement from the Navy, he managed Coast Photo and then moved on to Civil Service from which he also retired.

His son, Thomas H. Avery and grandson, James R. Avery III preceded Jim in death.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Rachel Dery Avery; children, James R. Avery, Jr. (Meg), Karen L. McClure (Ken), Susan D. Avery and Linda A. Culliton; grandchildren, Jennifer Millarker (Stacey), Rachel Farmer (Bryan), Dustin Parker (Amber) and Elizabeth McClure; and six great grandchildren, Chris Farmer, Kelly Farmer, Amelie Millarker, Layla Millarker, Gavin Parker and Garrett Parker.

A memorial mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 12, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Pensacola, Florida.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Jim may be made to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Avenue, Pensacola, FL 32504.
