John Calloway Spencer, age 69, of Pace, FL, passed away December 26, 2012 at his residence.
Mr. Spencer was born in Milton on April 26, 1943 to Almon Spencer and Evelyn Madeline Robertson Spencer. He was a third generation Santa Rosa County residence and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Milton. He graduated from Milton High School in 1961. He earned a BA degree from Duke University in 1965 and graduated from the University of Florida
Law School with honors in 1968.
Mr. Spencer spent nine years in private practice in Jacksonville representing business and commercial clients. He served as an Assistant State Attorney in the office of State Attorneys Curtis Golden and Bill Eddins from 1977 until his retirement in 2008. He served as Chief Assistant in both Santa Rosa and Okaloosa Counties and was assigned to special prosecutions in Escambia County, prosecuting major felonies.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Wanda McMillan Spencer of Pace; his brother James Robert Spencer, MD and wife Peggy of Sarasota, FL; his sister, Mary Evelyn Smith and husband, P.D. Smith, RADM (ret) of Alexandria, VA; his Uncle Holley Spencer of Milton, FL; his mother-in-law, Betty Hayes McMillan of Pace; and his many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 31, 2012 at the Chapel of National Cremation & Burial Society with the Rev. Kathy Knight officiating. Interment will follow at Memory Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Dubose, Randy Hensel, Joe Schiller, Mike Patterson, Jim McDaniel and Richard Bankich. Honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Golden, Stephen Petry, Paul Green, Paul Fitzgerald, Willard Beasley, Butch Lindsey, Roy Andrews, Stan McMillan, Greg McMillan, Bill Elliott and P.D. Smith.
Additional honorary pallbearers will be Jim Spencer, Bud Spencer, Kenny Spencer and Donald Spencer.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 4 until 6 PM.
