Kevin loved sports, coaching T-ball, motorcycles, boating, fishing, and home improvement projects and was a very devoted father who would do anything for his family and friends who was always willing to lend a hand. Kevin was also a fun-loving, outgoing joke-teller who always "lit up a room" and lived life "full throttle". Additionally, Kevin worked for G.E. for 10 years as Project Engineer and was also Honorably Discharged from the U.S. Marines where he served as an M1 Abrams tank mechanic and CH-46 Crewchief. Additionally, Kevin served in the Army
Reserve as an H-60 Blackhawk Medivac Crewchief and had recently transferred to the 146th Florida National Guard Expeditionary Signal Battalion where he'd completed 15 years of service.
Kevin was preceded in death by his great uncle and namesake, James Roland Johnson and is survived by his wife of 10 years, Lindsey Melton-Small; daughters Sydney and Madison; son, Evan; mother, Beverly D. Sparks; father, Ken Small, Jr.; sister, Michelle Flowers; brother, Ken Small III; grandmother, Aline White; great aunt, Jeanette Johnson as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Pallbearers will be Ken Small, Jr., Ken Small III, Donnie Fischer, Franco Antonetti, Ernie Melton and Matt Simpson.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Account has been set up for his children, Sydney, Madison and Evan at Pen Air Federal Credit Union, 1495 E. Nine Mile Road., Pensacola, FL 32534 in the name of Kevin Small Memorial Account.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, April 4, 2013 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
