Leona Spread

Leona (Lee) Marie Spread

1925 - 2012

Leona Spread passed away December 7, 2012 at Azalea Trace in Pensacola, FL after a long battle with cancer. Her loving friend, Mary O'Neal and Covenant Hospice were there when she entered into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior.

Lee graduated from Steinmetz High School in Chicago, IL in 1943. She was voted the Best Conversationalist in her class and anyone who knew her would agree.

Lee was born May 3, 1925 in Chicago to George and Marie Spread. She moved to Gulf Breeze, FL at Tiger Point before moving to Azalea Trace in 2010.

She worked at Kitchens of Sara Lee, and at TRW as an Executive Secretary for 12 years. She also was a Secretary for Stivers, Trans Union and Data Processing for many years.

Lee had a smile and always a good laugh for everyone. She belonged to Chapter 988 of the Eastern Star where she was honored for 50 years of service on the 12th day of August, 1996.

Lee also belonged to the National Society of Southern Dames of America, Gulf Isle Neighbors, Gulf Coast Friends, the Wednesday Lunch Bunch and the Red Hat Society.

She had many charities with which she volunteered including Independence for the Blind, Baptist Health Care of Gulf Breeze, Honor Flight, Gulf Coast Kids' House and Hadji Shrine Center.

Leona loved travelling and cruises and had enjoyed seeing most of the world.

Lee was preceded in death by the love of her life and soul mate, Richard Voley and her mother and father, George and Marie Spread.

She is survived by her dear friends, Lois Stewart, Katherine Johnston, Laurel Stewart and Kathy Stewart, all of Chicago, IL, Dagny Quandee of Rio Ranch, NM, and Randy Stewart of Valparaiso, IN.

Dear friends she made in the local area will miss her great sense of humor on life, never making a mistake but instead just having another way of doing things, that may not have been perfect, and finding a way to laugh at it. These friends include Mary O'Neal, Ruth Tait, Beverly Jurcak and many other friends from her social clubs and activities.

Lee's ashes were laid to rest with Richard's at Bayview Memorial Park on December 24, 2012.

Her Celebration of Life will be at St. Paul Methodist Church, 4901 Gulf Breeze Parkway on January 24, 2013 at 2:00 p.m.
