Leroy Gamlin



Leroy Clayton "Bunk" Gamlin, Jr. 87 entered into eternal rest Monday, June 9, 2014. A native Pensacolian born August 18, 1926 the second of four children born to Leroy & Merietta Gamlin both preceded him in death as well as two sisters Shirley Gamlin & Serrella Gamlin Capers.

He was educated in the local schools of Pensacola after graduation he enlisted in the US Navy after which he enrolled in Tennessee State University where he earned the Bachelor of Science degree in education, later obtaining the Masters degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago, IL, where he taught in the Cook County School system for 22 years retiring in 1990. He was also retired from the Santa Fe Railroad with 27 years of service on the "Super Chief" run from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Mr. Gamlin is lovingly survived by his wife of 54 years Ruth Malden Gamlin, daughther & son-in-law Denise Gamlin & Emmanuel Jennings; granddaughter Jasmine Jennings, sister Nina Capers, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law Elbert & Ella Malden; Sylvester & Geneva Malden, Wilbert & Fannie Malden LaVesta Malden-Boyd all of Pensacola; Drewell & Pat Malden, Carlie Malden Hill all of Chicago, IL as well as a host of loving nephews, nieces, and Cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 am Wednesday June 18, 2014 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church 1804 North Davis Street with Rev. James Valenzuela as Celebrant. Entombment will be in Holy Cross Mausoleum with BENBOE FUNERAL HOME directing. Viewing will be held one hour prior to Mass.
