Linda Chiles(1957 - 2013)

Linda Joyce

Perkins Chiles

1957-2013

Linda Joyce (Perkins) Chiles, 55, of Pensacola died Saturday, February 23, 2013.

Linda was a native of St. Louis, MO and grew up in the suburb of Fenton. She studied Nursing at Southeast Missouri State University, and met her husband-to-be Bill while working in a donut shop during summer break. A member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority, Linda graduated in 1978 and practiced nursing in Cape Girardeau, Kansas City, St. Louis, and Hannibal, MO before moving to Pensacola in 1988. She was a respected nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital in Pensacola for nearly 25 years and a certified instructor for BCLS, ACLS, and PALS.

As a mother, Linda was nothing short of a superhero. She served as PTA President at Cordova Park Elementary, Den Mother for Cub Scout Pack 418, Girl Scout Troop Leader for Daisies and Brownies, Team Mom for numerous baseball and soccer teams, Committee Member for Boy Scout Troop 495, and camp counselor for the inaugural Camp Bobber. Linda was also instrumental in bringing tournament-level girls fast-pitch softball to the Pensacola area.

Linda's passion for life and fun-loving spirit were contagious. Whether emphatically chomping at a Gator tailgate, hula dancing front row at a Jimmy Buffett concert, hiking a mountain trail in Yellowstone, salmon fishing out of Ludington on Lake Michigan, skydiving over the Emerald Coast, or releasing baby sea turtles on a beach in Cancun, Linda always knew how to bring the fun to her family and friends.

Recently, the joy of Linda's life has been loving and spoiling her grandsons Bryce & Brayden. From season tickets to Pelicans/Wahoos games, trips to the circus, bubbles in the backyard, and playtime on the porch, the grandkids never wanted for anything when visiting their Grandma.

Linda's beautiful soul and selfless nature endeared her to everyone who had the pleasure of crossing her path. Though taken from us far too soon, we shall always carry in our hearts the warmth of her smile, the spirit of her laugh, and the grace of her unconditional love. She will be deeply missed.

Linda was preceded in death by her husband of 24 ½ years Bill E. (2002) and father-in-law Bill H. (1995).

She is survived by her 3 children, son Bill R.; daughter Laura (Billy) Hatton and their 2 sons Bryce & Brayden, all of Pensacola; and son Bob of Dallas, TX; parents Charles & Marilyn Perkins; brother Ron (Paula) Perkins and their 3 children Johanna & Derek, all of Fenton, MO and Bridget of Pensacola; mother-in-law Marcheta Erwin Chiles, sister-in-law Marcia Chiles and her 3 children Mike (Bethany), Anne, & Brian, all of Lee's Summit, MO.

Visitation will be held at 4:00pm until a Memorial Service to begin at 5:00pm Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church.

The family expresses their deepest appreciation to Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and the entire Sacred Heart Cancer Center staff, who through their loving care have made these last 10 years with Linda possible. They also sincerely thank Linda's closest friends and caregivers who have been so devoted through the best and most challenging of times, and the many dear friends and relatives who have offered their prayers and support.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the William E. Chiles Memorial Scholarship Fund (C/O Escambia County Public Schools Foundation, J.C. Hall Center, 30 Texar Dr. Pensacola, FL 32503), or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (lls.org).
