Marie Joan Stofer
Marie Joan Stofer née Curley, 90, of Pensacola passed away Monday, February 10, 2014.
Marie was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, the fourth of eight children born to Francis and Anna Curley. She attended Bishop Malloy High School in Brooklyn, NY.
Marie met her future husband James via a mutual friend while in high school. They were married in Queen of All Saints Catholic Church in 1943. While James served in US Navy Pacific Fleet during World War II, Marie lived in and maintained her father's household. Her first child, Andrea, was born during this time. When James returned from the Pacific, they moved to a few different cities, celebrated the birth of their son Eugene, and eventually settled in Edison, NJ where James began a long career with Johnson and Johnson. Marie worked part time while her children were in school. As they grew older, she worked as a bank teller and bookkeeper.
She enjoyed many hobbies ranging from painting ceramics, crochet, singing, bowling and reading. But her favorite hobby might have been ballroom dancing with her husband James. She and James participated in little theater, founding a community theater in Edison in 1960.
They also loved travel, especially with old friends. After living in Ridge, NY for fourteen years, Marie and James moved to Florida in 2003 to be closer to their children.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Francis and Anna and siblings; Anne, Elizabeth, Francis, Joseph, Valentine, Joan and Veronica.
She is survived by her husband, James; her daughter, Andrea (Dan) of Pensacola; her son, Eugene of Jacksonville and her grandchildren; Brian, Elaine and Erin and their families.
Visitation will be held at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel from 5 to 7pm Friday, February 14, 2014. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church at 10:30am Saturday, February 15, 2014 with Fr. Chris LeBlanc celebrant.
