1913 - 2012
Marjorie Cutchen McLendon, 99, of Pace, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012.
She was born August 15, 1913 in Bay Minette, AL and marrying military men, she lived in many places before settling in Pace, FL. Marjorie was a career woman becoming the first female supervisor at NAS Pensacola where she worked from 1940 until her retirement in 1979. The first monkey sent into space, Ham, was dressed in a jump suit designed and sewed by Marjorie. Marjorie also worked at Baptist Hospital, Emergency Room, for nine years as a Gray Lady.
Preceded in death are her husbands, Arzona Cutchen and John P. McLendon; son, Zona Cutchen; grandson, John K. Cutchen; three sisters and two brothers.
Left to cherish her memory is her son, Paul (Billye) Cutchen; daughter-in-law, Mary Cutchen; sister, Olea Rupert; six grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at 10:30 am Friday, December 7, 2012 at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home until services begin at 11:30 a.m. with The Reverend Julie Kain officiating. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.
