1948-2014

Paula Jones Martin of Marcus Pointe, Pensacola, FL was called home the morning of July 24, 2014. Paula was born on March 19, 1948 in Little Rock, AK. She received her Bachelors' degree in Psychology and Masters' Degrees in Psychology and Speech Language Pathology from the Mississippi State College for Women.

Paula was a vibrant woman who believed in helping others. For 42 years, she worked as a Speech Pathologist for the Escambia County School District where she created and directed the Pre-Kindergarten Special Education Program. Her selfless work over that time helped to improve the lives of thousands of children. She was also a member of the Fidelis Nu chapter of the Alpha Delta Kappa honorary organization for women educators. She retired in 2012, but continued to actively serve her community. She was a Past President of the Junior League of Pensacola and created the Junior League Expo during her time with them. Paula was also a devoted member of the United Methodist Church and served in several capacities in her church including as a councilor of the UMYF, President of the UMW, and Chairman of the Council on Ministries.

Paula not only devoted herself to her work and to her church but also to her many friends and family members. She was full of life and brought joy, energy, and enthusiasm with her everywhere she went. She was beloved by her family and will be greatly missed by everyone whom her life has touched.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Peggy and John Paul Jones. She is survived by her husband of 23 years, Jerry L. Martin (CPO, USN, Ret.); her brother E. Wayne Jones; her daughter, Amy Fossa (Matthew), and her grandchildren, Sarah Raines, Katie Raines, (and their father Michael Raines) and Emma Fossa.

Pallbearers will be Malcolm Davis, Paul Fetsko, Matthew Fossa, Michael Raines, Brant Thorn, and Pat Judd.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Bob Josephs, Joe Lovoy, and Ernie Thorne.

Visitation will be held at 11:30am Monday, August 4, 2014 at the Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel on Airport Blvd with the Funeral Service beginning at 12:30pm. Graveside services to follow at Barrancas National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Escambia County Public School Foundation, 30 E. Texar Dr., room 113, Pensacola, FL 32503 or the ARC 3932 N. 10th Ave. Pensacola, FL 32503 to help continue the work she began.
