PAULINE DYAR COX WIGINTON
1928 - 2012
Pauline Wiginton (Polly), 84, of Pensacola, passed away Friday, December 14, 2012 in Atlanta, Georgia, after complications developed following her open-heart surgery in October. The youngest daughter of Timothy Truelove Cox and his wife Mae Belle Dyar Cox was born in Montgomery, Alabama on February 25, 1928 and raised in North Alabama. As a young girl Polly met the love of her life Prince Alvis Wiginton. They married May 05, 1946. Polly is preceded in death by: her parents; husband; two brothers and four sisters.
Polly wanted to be a foreign missionary. But as her life unfolded, God had other things in store for her as a "home" missionary in every sense of the word. As a young military wife, Polly moved many times, all while caring for her three young children. Polly and her husband, Prince, eventually settled in Pensacola and started a successful RV business. She was a great mentor for everyone she touched in her family, church and community. One of Polly's favorite involvements was teaching 101 reading to adults. Polly was actively involved at First Baptist Church of Pensacola as a Samaritan Hands Counselor; Women's Ministries study associate leader, WMU, Sunday School Teacher, Director of Junior Choir and was an active Pensacola Garden Club member. She loved needlework, quilting, crocheting skullcaps, oil painting, gardening, writing poems and journals. Her letters to the editor were often published in the Pensacola News Journal.
Polly is survived by one brother, Jack V. Cox of Tennessee; her children, Norman Wiginton of Milton, Sandra Coleman of Atlanta, Paula Grabowski of California and Cynthia Cloud of Atlanta; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to Samaritan Hands, in care of First Baptist Church of Pensacola, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
