Rebecca Duffey London
Ann Rebecca Duffey London, age 93, of St. Simons Island, GA, (formerly of Pensacola, FL) died Friday, March 21, 2014. She is survived by two daughters; Rebecca Gail London Quickle (Anthony) of St. Simons Island; Carol Ann Mathews of Tallahassee; two grandchildren, Wiley Mathews and Ann Mathews, both of New York and numerous nieces and nephews. Rebecca was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, William Harold London; her parents, George and Julia Duffey; four sisters and four brothers, one of whom was her twin.
Born in Brownsville, TN, she later moved with family to Alabama (Carville and Montgomery). Once married, she raised her family in Chattanooga TN and Pensacola, FL.
While in Pensacola, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Pensacola, and was active in the Lipscomb Sunday School Class, United Methodist Women, Chair of the Prayer chain, Disciple Classes, and performed in the hand bell choir. She was a member of the P.E.O. International. Most recently, Rebecca was a member of Wesley United Methodist at Frederica, Saint Simons and member of the Heritage Sunday School class.
Rebecca had the sweetest spirit and a keen wit. She was courageous and faced adversity with grace. Rebecca was empathic, compassionate and kind. She loved people of all ages and they loved her. Her faith in God was steadfast and her love of family was evident in all she did. She loved music of all kinds and sang and played the piano every day.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Wesley United Methodist Church at Frederica on St. Simons Island. A reception will follow at the church.
