Richard "Rick" Leonard Jernigan, 64, of Pace, Florida, due to a battle with pancreatic cancer, born unto heaven, Friday, May 16th, 2014, at a local hospital.
Rick was born September 22nd, 1949 in Pensacola Florida. His life was highlighted by a nearly 43 year marriage to Phyllis Yates Jernigan. He is also survived by his daughter Kerri (John) Rigsby son Aaron Jernigan (Danae Howell) three grandchildren Sophia, Ian, and Chad Rigsby three brothers Herbert (Sorita) Jernigan, Wendell (Patty) Jernigan, Larry Jernigan sister Ethel (Charles) Cresawn as well as many inlaws, nieces, nephews, and friends all privilege to his smile, mountainous heart, and his love for Jesus.
As a testament to his patriotism, Rick served 4 years in the U.S.A.F. as a Vietnamese interpreter and voice processing specialist. As a testament to his nature, (and carpentry skills), he devoted 33 years of love working at Olive Baptist Church as a maintenance worker. He had a toe he loved to tap, hands he loved to clap, and joy that is contagious.
A viewing for the family will be held on Tuesday, May 20th, and from 6:00 to 8:00pm of the same day for any others at Lewis Funeral Home, 6405 Highway 90 West, Milton, FL 32570. The funeral service will be held May 21st starting 1:00pm at Olive Baptist Church, 1836 E Olive Rd., Pensacola Florida, with Dr. Ted Traylor and Rev. Bud Burrell officiating. The burial will be at 3:30pm Pleasant Home Baptist Church, 8500 Pleasant Home Rd, Holt, FL 32564.
