Rita Eika Jones 82 was born on October 7, 1930 to Scott C. and Corinne H. Jones. At age 12, Rev. E.S. Shirley confirmed her at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church.

On Friday, February 1, 2013, the Lord in His infinite wisdom, commissioned the angels to escort our beloved Rite Jones into his presence.

Ms. Jones graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1948. She received an undergraduate degree from Bethune-Cookman University (mathematics education); master's degrees from Northwestern University (mathematics) and Harvard University (mathematics education); and a specialist degree from Florida State University (design and management of elementary and secondary schools). She completed all course work for a doctorate degree at Florida State University and various courses at Clyde Gore Real Estate School (sales person & brokers); Florida A&M University (administration and supervision); The University of West Florida (community school research, and small business program); Case Institute of Technology (mathematics and computer technology); and H & R Block Tax School.

On June 30, 1994, she retired from the Escambia County School District with 41 years of service in positions of middle and high school mathematics teacher and assistant principal; middle school principal, high school registrar-dean; district supervisor of mathematics; and district director of comprehensive planning.

While employed with the school district, she was active with many national, state, district, and school committees and activities, in the areas of: accountability; differentiated teacher assignment; school teacher and administrator organizations; student discipline; employees insurance management information systems data review; curriculum development; compensatory education' school improvement; school advisory council; school accreditation; school administration and supervision; staff development; professional practices of state teachers and administrators; elementary, middle, and high school; problem-solving; Title IX; needs assessment; laws/rules/policies; multicultural education; student achievement; program and student evaluation; student recognition; school volunteers; school research; annual rep[ort planning and writing; and school finance.

Ms. Jones served on Pensacola City Council District 3 in Escambia country for two terms.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Scott C. and Corinne H. Jones; her brother, Scott C. Jones, Jr.; her sister, Corinne Harvey Jones White, and her niece Rita Brent Hunter.

She is survived by a sister Sybil J. Dedmond of Pensacola, Florida, a devoted nephew, William (Gloria) Brent III, of Pensacola, Florida, two other nephews, Nathanial (Renetta) Dedmond, of Pensacola, Florida, and Donald Jones, of Detroit, Michigan. Two great nieces, Margo Hunter Jordan, of Raleigh, NC, and Kimberly (Ray) Hunter Cornell, of Broadway, NC. Two devoted friends, Geraldine C. Scott and Minnie C. Byrd. And a host of other relatives and friends.

Family visitation Friday, February 8, 2013 at Joe Morris and Son Funeral Home from 6-7 pm.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday February 9, 2013 at St. Cyprian's Episcopal Church 500 N. Reus Street at 11:00 a.m.
