Ruth Lorraine Worthington Edwin, 88, of Pace, FL and formerly of Pensacola passed away on Monday, May 5, 2014. She was born in Pratt, KS on July 14, 1925, the only daughter of Hugh and Verna Worthington. Ruth graduated from Arkansas City, KS high school in 1943. She was married to Norman L. Edwin on April 21, 1944. Being the wife of a Naval Aviator, she lived in Florida, Texas, California, Mississippi, Alabama, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Japan and Newfoundland. She was a medical secretary to a general practitioner after her three children graduated from high school. Ruth was a fantastic piano player, a dynamic bridge player and avid reader. Ruth was a volunteer with the Navy Relief Society and the Cub Scouts.
Her husband, Norman L. Edwin preceded her in death in 1990.
She is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Gentry of Pace, FL and Barbara Edwin Akers of Milton, FL; her son, James R. Edwin of Las Cruces, NM and her grandsons, Franklin Gentry of Dallas, TX and David Edwin of Springdale, AR.
Visitation will be held from 5-6pm Thursday, May 8, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Graveside service will be at 11am Friday, May 9, 2014 at Barrancas National Cemetery with Chaplain Ken Griffin officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, 91 Radford Blvd., Bldg 191; Pensacola, FL 32508.
