Maj. Walter Charles Sagebiel, (USMC, RET.)
Walter Charles Sagebiel, 77, of Pensacola passed away Monday, June 24th, 2013.
Charlie was born in Temple, Texas on July 7th, 1935 to Leola (Light) and Charles Alfred Sagebiel. Charlie attended Texas Lutheran College in Seguin, Texas. He received active duty orders on July 24th, 1957 after enrolling as a cadet in the NAVCAD program. A veteran of more than twenty years of service, Charlie served numerous stateside duty assignments with foreign duty in Mainland Japan, Vietnam, and Okinawa. Maj. Sagebiel flew combat missions in the A-4 Skyhawk and was qualified in the A-6 Intruder. He flew numerous helicopters, as well as a multi-engine propeller aircraft throughout his military career. Following military retirement in 1977, Charlie worked offshore as a helicopter pilot and then trained pilots as a simulator instructor for tactical and training aircraft. He then received a Masters Degree in Special Education from the University of West Florida.
Always remembered for his quick wit and love for music, his sense of humor is only equaled to his complete devotion to his family and the ones he loved.
His parents preceded Charlie in death and he is survived by his loving wife, Carol Nobles Sagebiel and three children: Lorie Sagebiel Barnett (Bruce) Gulf Breeze FL; Col. Charles Sagebiel (Wanda) Peachtree City, GA; Suzanne Sagebiel White GA; and sister, Dogie Keith Austin, TX. Charlie also had ten grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nephews and nieces.
The memorial service will be held on July 2nd, 2013 at the All Faith Chapel (the small chapel) aboard NAS Pensacola, FL at 10 a.m. Burial will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery at 11 a.m.
