Willie James Lewis

1932 - 2013

Willie James Lewis, was born August 29, 1932, in Bainbridge Georgia. He served in the U.S. Army for three years and thirty-seven years as an active reservist in Pensacola at the U.S. Army Reserve Center. Willie was employed for 30 years with the "City of Pensacola". He retired in December 1995. He was a Deacon at Sixth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church. He was known for blasting his "boom box" while walking (sometimes backwards) around the track at then-PJC (Pensacola Junior College).

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Mrs. Marie Lewis; five children: Mary Diane (Frederick) Davis, Beverly Lewis, and David Lewis and Angela Lewis, and Linda Bryant of Miami, Florida, who preceded him in death; one sister Mrs. Vivian Carter of Detroit, Michigan; twelve grandchildren and a number of great­ grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Tracy Morton Memorial Chapel, 55 Coast Rd. Funeral Service begins at 11:30 AM on Monday, September 16, 2013, at the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Reverend Michael J. Johnson Sr. officiating. Burial will be at Barrancas National Cemetery, on board NAS Pensacola.
