1930-2014

Winifred Louise Rodriguez Holmer, age 83, passed peacefully to eternal rest with The Lord Jesus on Friday, June 27, 2014 in Pensacola. A native of Baton Rouge, LA she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Alphonse and Edna Bourgeois Rodriguez, all 10 siblings and her husband of 50 years, Donald.

She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and Baton Rouge Business College and worked for several years as a legal secretary and assistant to the LA Forestry Commissioner. She served as representative to the World Federation of Sodalities of Our Lady Congress in 1954 in Rome, Italy and was active in many ministries in St. Joseph Parish. "Winnie" was at her best in any social setting and enjoyed a multitude of lifelong friendships.

Upon moving to Pensacola in the late 60's she developed a passion for beach-combing and was always happy to share her love and acquired knowledge of seashells and the water's edge with anyone. Winnie and Don were founding parishioners of Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, Pensacola and both served in numerous leadership positions in the Parish.

Mrs. Holmer is survived by sons, Matthew of New Orleans and Andrew of Gulf Breeze; daughters-in-law, Cynthia and Julie; grandchildren, Kathryn Sawyer, Jordan, Zachary, William and Jackson Holmer and great grandchildren, Thomas and Mackenzie Sawyer.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of Azalea Trace Community for their compassionate care over the last year and to dearest friends from Nativity Catholic Church and Mirabelle Community for their love, friendship and support of our mother and father for many years.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 5, 2014 at 9am at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 445 Marquette Ave., Baton Rouge, LA 70806 followed by a Funeral Mass at 10am and burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Nativity of Our Lord Church in Pensacola on Friday August 8, 2014 at 11am.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Pensacola ALPHA Center Inc. (a Pregnancy Care Center) P.O. Box 10880, Pensacola, FL 32524 or , 202 W. Jackson St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
