Louis Powell Obituary
Rev. Powell went to be with his Lord on August 25, 2015. Rev. Powell was called to the ministry as a young man, having received the Lord as his Savior at 19 years of age. He was ordained as a Nazarene preacher and served in some form of ministry since 20 years of age. There is no measure of how many lives were changed and touched because of his faithfulness. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Essie Powell, his son, Louis Lee Powell (Dorothy), and his grandson, Trey Pennington (Edward Fowler, III) (Jean). He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Myrtle Powell; his 2 daughters, Ethel Nall (Tom)) and Syble Mashner (Dr. Mel Mashner); his daughter-in-law Dorothy Ward (Tom); his grandchildren: James Elliott (Kathy), Pam Hammontree (Major Jack), Erick Pennington (Sara), Syble Michelle Pennington, Allen Powell (Cary), Cassie MacCaffrey, (LCDR Michael), Rhonda Norsby, Scott Snowden (Kimberly), and step-daughter Deborah Holler and her two daughters. He was blessed to have 19 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren and a wonderful church family with friends too numerous to count. He was a kind and gentle man who considered all persons equal and precious. We miss him.
Visitation will be on Friday August 28, 2015 at Eastern Gate on Nine Mile Rd at 10-11 am with service to follow. Burial will be at Bayview on Scenic Highway. A memorial service celebrating his life will begin immediately following (around 12:15 pm) at Ensley Church of the Nazarene on Palafox Highway. In his honor, donations may be made to the Gideons or to the Ensley Church of the Nazarene.

Brother Powell was a true man of God. I always loved to hear him pray, and felt like he was really in touch with the Lord. Prayers for his family to be comforted and encouraged during this time of loss.

Rev Powell was a true servant of his Lord. I had the honer of having his serve with me at Pensacola First. A Godly man.

A sweet man has now seen the face of his savior. What a blessing Rev Powell was to Ensley when we were there. Thankful for his kindness and encouragement. Rest in peace. To his family- we pray with you and for you. Saddened by your loss. We love you all.

Brother Powell was such a blessing and if I ever needed someone to pray, he was the one I would have wanted to call on. He was always there to visit in the hospital. A great man of prayer.
