Deacon Cleveland Johnson,78, of Pensacola, FL, passed away Saturday, September 28, 2013. He was the son of the late Deacon William Johnson, Sr., and Sister Corrie Johnson. He was born May 8, 1935, in Snow Hill, AL. He was baptized at the New Virgin Baptist Church. He attended school at Pineapple High School of Pineapple, AL. He married Frances Cunningham Anderson in 1998. He retired from Smith Sunbean Bakery. He also worked for San Carlos Hotel and Community Transportation for a number of years. He united with the Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Elder J.H. Kendrick and continued to serve under the leadership of Elder Bernard C. Yates. Deacon Johnson was always a willing servant of the Lord. He has served as Member of the Trustee Board, Chairman of the Deacon Board, Treasurer of the Church, member of Man-To-Man, member of the Progressive League and performed many other duties of the church. In the Community, he served as a Poll Deputy for the Supervisor of Elections.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Frances Johnson of Pensacola, FL; two loving daughters, Gloria Woods of Pensacola, FL and Janice Jones; two sons, Harold (Patricia) Smith, Jr., and Vernon (Diane) Robinson both of Atlanta, GA; one sister, Ernestine Abbott; one brother, William Johnson both of Pensacola. Funeral services will be held, Thursday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the Zion Hope Primitive Baptist Church with the Pastor Bernard C. Yates officiating. Burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery. Public viewing will be held Noon-9 Wednesday.
