CDR David Victor Morris, USN (ret.), 65, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, March 25, 2013.
David was born in Panama City, FL and grew up in South Carolina. He enlisted in the US Navy in 1967. After having been honorably discharged, he attended the University of South Carolina graduating in 1973 where upon he re-entered the Navy as a Commissioned Officer specializing in cryptology. During his service to our country, David achieved the rank of Commander and was the last Commanding Officer of NSGA Skaggs Island. Various duty stations included Misawa, Japan; Subic Bay, Philippines and Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. David retired after 25 years of service in 1994. He attended the UWF English Graduate Program and worked in the Writing Lab. His hobbies included bridge, tennis, golf, cooking, baking, reading and working at Roger Scott Tennis Center.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton Robert and Jettierue Morris.
Survivors include his domestic partner of 16 years, John Christopher Lowe; son, William Morris of Pensacola, FL; son, Ben Morris (Allison) of Jackson Heights, NY; sister, Sheron Morris of Columbia, SC; brother, Albert Morris of Romney, WV; brother, Seth Morris of Society Hill, SC; grandchildren, Jack, Ian, Gray, Olivia and Evelyn; nephews, Henry and Matt; niece, Rebecca; as well as his dogs, Timon and King.
Memorial Visitation will be held 5-7pm Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.
Memorial Service will be held 2pm Friday, March 29, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Private Family Committal will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
