Colonel Dean F. Schnoor, (USA, Ret.)

Dean F. Schnoor, 87, of Milton passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2013.

Dean was born in Perry, Iowa on June 3, 1925 to Jessie (Hall) and Fred Schnoor. He graduated from the U. S. Military Academy at West Point in 1950. The veteran of more than 28 years of service, Dean had seen foreign duty in the Panama Canal Zone, Puerto Rico, Korea, Germany and Vietnam. He did graduate work in Business Administration at Virginia Tech and earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration at Shippensburg State College. He also graduated from the Army Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. Following military retirement in 1979, Dean established Whispering Pines Christmas Tree Farm in Milton.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Deoma Mendenhall Schnoor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Penton Schnoor and ten children: Rick Schnoor (Kathie), Miami; Randy Schnoor (Jan), Bristow, VA; Chris Schnoor (Carrie), Austin, TX; Sara Sullivan (Danny), Reston, VA; Lisa Gibson

(John), Asheville, NC; Julie Schnoor, North Andover, MA; Wanda Sagebiel (Chuck), Peach Tree City, GA; Mike Kelly (Erica), Pace; Jeff Schnoor (Claire), Denver, CO; and Greg Schnoor (Lisa), Pensacola; and one sister, Helen Schnoor Georgi, Germantown, TN. Dean also had twenty-six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held at 5:00PM on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Lewis Funeral Home, Milton Chapel followed by a Memorial Service at 6:00 PM.

Burial will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, DC at a later date.
