Earl Ward

1922 - 2014

Earl Ward, 91, World War II veteran and insurance salesman, died on March 8, 2014.

One of eleven children, Earl spent his early years on the family's 80-acre farm in Allentown. In 1940, Earl enlisted in the Navy, where he served in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, Earl joined with the Merchant Marine, ferrying supplies to and from Japan and the U.S. After stints in the Pacific Northwest and Chicago, Earl returned to Florida in the 1950s where he began a career in insurance sales and never retired.

Having snow white hair for the last thirty years, Earl was affectionately known as "Grandpa With the White Hair." In his later years, he took time to relate some of the family's history to his oldest grandchild through recorded conversations.

Survivors include: his companion of 38 years, June Mackey; his brother, Doyle; his son, Michael; his daughter-in-law, Cyndie; and his grandsons, Michael Jr. and Matthew.

Trahan Family Funeral Home, 419 Yoakum Court, is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until military honors are bestowed at 10:30 a.m. all on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at the funeral home.

Burial to follow in Eastern Gate Memorial Gardens in Pensacola.
