Elaine Panich of Pensacola passed away on January 15, 2014 at the age of 83. Elaine was born in Detroit, MI on February 7, 1930 to Erick and Clara Knop. She grew up in Detroit and graduated from Southeastern High School in 1947. After graduation, she worked for the Probation Office in Detroit where she met Walter Panich whom she married on September 6, 1952. They started their family in 1956. After living in Annandale, VA and Traverse City, MI, she and Walter relocated to Pensacola, FL in 1984.
Elaine devoted her life to her family, raising and caring for her husband and four children. She weathered adversity with quiet determination particularly caring for her husband during his decline. Elaine was always heavily involved in many capacities at her churches through the years. Her hobbies included golf, logic problems and puzzles. She was always more than ready to play cards and other games with family and friends. She was a faithful Lutheran all her life, most recently at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Pensacola.
Elaine is preceded in death by her husband, Walter and brothers; Robert and Fred Knop.
She is survived by her children; David (Mary Anne) Panich of Reston, VA, Donna (Kevin) Heimbaugh of Cary, NC, Susan (Tony) Mammarelli of Pensacola, FL and Peggy (Steve) Kahrs of Canton, MI. She is also survived by six grandchildren; Melissa and Kristin Heimbaugh, Tony and Joey Bard and Cody and Lauren Kahrs.
A Memorial service will be held at 10:00a.m. Friday, January 24, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 4600 N. 9th Ave, Pensacola with Pastor Mary Peterson officiating.
The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the Health Center of Pensacola and Regency Hospice for their caring and compassionate care of Elaine during her stay.
