George A. Fell, Jr.

1923-2012

George A. Fell, Jr., 89, of Pensacola, Florida, went to be with the Lord on December 4, 2012, while resting peacefully and surrounded by his wife and his two sons.

George was born July 20, 1923, in Old Warrington, Florida, the son of the late George A. Fell, Sr., and Lillie Eleanor Nettles Fell. George, Jr., was the fifth generation of his family born on the naval base in Old Warrington. During George's childhood, the family moved to nearby Pensacola. George graduated from Pensacola High School and received undergraduate and graduate degrees in accounting from Bowling Green University and the University of Denver respectively. George's early professional career was spent traveling the country as an auditor of electric utility companies for the national accounting firm of Arthur Andersen based in Atlanta. George returned to Pensacola in 1956 to work for Gulf Power Company serving in various accounting, auditing, and security leadership positions. During these years at Gulf Power, George was proud of his volunteer service on the board of the Visiting Nurses Association. He retired from Gulf Power Company in 1990 after 34 years of service.

George is survived by Patricia Howes Fell, his beloved wife of 17 years, his sister Eleanor Carpenter, his sister Marion Edwards and her husband Raymond Edwards, his son George Michael Fell and his wife Alison P. Fell and their four children (Maggie, Austin, Nathan, and Alice Ann), and his son Charles Andrew Fell and his wife Jeannie I. Fell and their two children (Catherine and William). George was preceded in death by his wife of 38 years, Margery Beane Fell, whom George cared for faithfully during her battle with cancer. George was very devoted to and dearly loved by his entire family which, in addition to the above family members, included three step-children, fifteen grandchildren, seven nieces and nephews, and fifty first cousins.

Outside of his family, George's greatest love was for his Savior Jesus Christ and his church. George became a member of McIlwain Presbyterian Church upon moving back to his home town of Pensacola in 1956. For more than 45 years, George was a Ruling Elder of McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church, actively serving until illness prevented him during the last few months of his life.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, December 7, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola. Memorial services will be held at McIlwain Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1220 East Blount Street, Pensacola, Florida, on Saturday, December 8, at 2:00 PM. Honorary pallbearers are the Elders of the Session at McIlwain: Bruce Clark, Michael Dieckmann, Edward Gross, Robert Kimmel, Brent McMahan, Raymond Myers, Richard Oaks, James Robertson, Thomas Swaim, Charles Yates, Philip Vaughn, Richard Wilcox and John Woodward.
