On Wednesday, May 23, 2012, Gleaner Thomsen left her earthly home to reside in her Heavenly Mansion. Gleaner was born on August 28, 1929 in Uriah, Alabama and resided most of her life in Pensacola, FL.
Gleaner was predeceased by her twin brother Glyder and loving husband, Thomas.
Gleaner leaves to cherish her memory her five children, Tom (Linda) Thomsen, Tony (Lillie) Thomsen, Timothy (Connie) Thomsen, Michele (Kevin) Williams, Melissa (Paul) Rollings; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends.
Gleaner was a dedicated member of the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church. She taught Sunday school classes for over 50 years, as well as being active in a variety of church activities.
Mother was a home maker for many years, who after raising her children, returned to school and became a licensed Cosmetologist with her own shop. Mother provided much loving support to dad and the entire family. She was a great caregiver and always put other's needs first. She worked long and tiresome hours to provide great meals, a clean loving home, and a solid foundation built on Jesus Christ. She sewed and hand made many clothes for her children. She also made beautiful quilts for her family. Mother was well known for her ability and recipes to provide a variety of delicious meals. She took great delight in cooking for her family and guests. Mother was always generous and loving to her elderly clientele by providing transportation to her salon and reduced prices, as she would tell us; she considered this one of her callings. She especially loved babies and children. She and dad provided loving daycare to numerous grandchildren. Mother was strong in her faith and convictions. She was blessed by the ability to pray some of the most simple and powerful prayers to "Our Heavenly Father" and Our Savior Jesus Christ. She was a loving, dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who showed us what great courage and strength is.
Mother, we will miss you dearly, but we rest in our faith knowing it won't be long til we see you and dad again.
Visitation will be at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Friday, May 25th from 4-6pm. Services will be at Myrtle Grove Baptist Church on Saturday, May 26th at 10:00am with Rev. Ron Lentine and Rev. Alton Butler officiating.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Myrtle Grove Baptist Church building fund or the Joyce Goldenberg Covenant Hospice.
