Jesse S. Liechty


Jesse S. Liechty, 96, of Spencerville, IN died on Monday, April 15, 2013 at The Cedars. Born Sept. 25, 1916 in Archibold, OH, he was a son of the late Silas and Sarah Liechty. Jesse was a man of the land. He was a farmer in the Leo area all of his life. He was passionate about living, loving his God, his family and sharing the "good news" of Jesus with anyone he would meet. He enjoyed speaking and singing with his wife, Margie, at the rescue missions, jails, etc. His harmonica was always at his hand ready for a song. He was involved with The Gideon's, Full Gospel Businessmen and church life. He loved to travel and be involved in mission projects. He lived life to the fullest and acknowledged the Lord in all his ways.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Allen Liechty; sisters, Mildred Graber, Delilah Seiler, Mary Stucky, Ruth Shue; brothers, Simon Liechty, Omer Liechty and Rubin Liechty.

Surviving are his wife of 69 years, Margie M.; children, Leon (Pauline) Liechty, of Lillian, AL, Steven (Linda) Liechty and Darrell (Carol) Liechty, both of Pensacola, FL, Neil (Trish) Liechty of Pine Mountain, GA, Dawn (Jacob) Gingerich of Durango, CO, Karla (Joey) Miller of Spencerville, IN; 20 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and brother, Richard (Ruth) Liechty, of Spencerville, IN.

Visitation is from 2-6pm Sunday, April 21, 2013 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN. A service celebrating his life will be held at 5pm Monday, April 22 at Central Church, 5801 Schwartz Road, Fort Wayne, IN with Pastor Jeremy Helmuth and Pastor Don Delagrange officiating. A private burial ceremony will follow in Leo Memorial Cemetery in Leo, IN. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Gideon's International Bible Program, P.O. Box 3669, Pensacola, FL 32516.
