Dr. Joseph M. Cherian

Dr. Joseph M. Cherian, 66, died Saturday, November 17, 2012, at his home in Pace following an ongoing illness.

Born in India, to C.C. Ouseph and Elizabeth Ouseph, Dr. Cherian spent his early years in India. He graduated from Madras University with a medical degree. Soon after he graduated he traveled to New York where he did his internal medicine training and then specialized in cardiology. In 1979, Dr. Cherian moved to Milton, where he started as a solo-practice physician. He served the community as a heart specialist until his retirement in December, 2011, constantly displaying a true passion for and commitment to healing people. In his free time, Dr. Cherian enjoyed playing tennis and spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching movies, reading novels, and dabbling in basketball. Dr. Cherian was well known for his keen sense of humor and love of a good joke. He cared for many as a physician and was dearly loved by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Annie; his daughter, Sindhu; and his son, Sunil. He also leaves behind his mother, Elizabeth; sisters, Shantha and Annie; brother Dr. Anto; friends, and many colleagues, as well as the staff at his office and at Santa Rosa hospital where he practiced.

Visitation will be held from 10a.m. to 12p.m. on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at Lewis Funeral Home Milton Chapel. A visitation will also follow from 4p.m. to 5p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church, 3131 Hyde Park Road, Pensacola. There will be a Celebration of Life Mass at 5p.m. at St. Paul's Catholic Church with Father Tom Koyickeal, officiating.
