Vera Louise Campbell Bowen was born December 14, 1924, in Abbeville, SC, as the sixth daughter of Hoyt & Bessie Campbell. She was guided by God's Light to her heavenly home on Sunday, February 24, 2013. In her 88 years on Earth, Louise was a shining example of the true meaning of unconditional love and acceptance. She was a blessing to all who knew her by always seeing the best in people and inspiring confidence to always reach for the stars. Welcoming anyone she met into her family with loving southern hospitality, Louise never knew a stranger. Saying "Something good comes from everything," she always found the positive in every situation. As a cancer survivor, she founded and led for many years the Cokesbury Cancer Support Group where she was an inspiration to others in coping with her own health challenges for the past 25 years.
In her life's work, Louise made the world a better place by focusing on faith, family, and friends. She had various jobs - textile mill cloth inspector, beautician & beauty shop owner, hospital ward clerk; however, her favorite job was taking care of her babies who called her "Bobo" during her years at Cokesbury Children's Center. Sharing her talents as a seamstress, she not only clothed her family, but also made costumes, dolls, and other crafts for gifts and church fundraising projects with the United Methodist Women's Naomi Circle. Dancing with the Pensacola Shufflers' Square Dancers and the Sunshine Cloggers was a favorite activity for many years. Music gave her joy and her special songs will be remembered by those with whom she sang. In recent years Louise enjoyed being hostess for her friends' weekly Friday Potluck Lunch & Netflix Movie Day. Her proudest achievements were as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who never tired of talking about her family with love.
Leaving a legacy of love, Louise will be missed by those left to cherish her memory. She is survived by her children, Pam Schwartz (Harry), Phyllis Verdugo (Marty), Edwin Bowen (Maureen); 5 grandchildren, Heather, Jeremy, Laurel, Jennie, and BJ; 6 great-grandchildren, Alex, Jack, Cole, Elise, Ben and Evan; her dear sister, Edith McElrath; numerous nieces, nephews & other family members; special friends - Ronnie Faria, Donna Sanchez, Ouida Williams, Kay Spurlock (her daughter-in-heart) and countless more.
Angel Louise is now rejoicing in a Heavenly Reunion with her loved ones whose deaths preceded hers: her parents; her sisters, MacieLee, Mary, Inez, Annie; her beloved husband, Marshall E. Bowen Sr., who was her partner for almost 56 years of marriage.
Gratitude and appreciation are expressed for the compassionate care and support given by West Florida Hospital, The Health Center of Pensacola, Covenant Hospice & Cokesbury Church Staff & Friends. Phil Igney's weekly serenades with everyone's prayers, cards, calls, and visits were special blessings to Louise and her family during her illness the last two months.
Visitation will be held 2:00pm until the Celebration of Life Memorial Service to begin at 3:00pm Saturday, March 2, 2013 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for Louise C. Bowen may be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church Children's Ministries, 5725 North 9th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504.
