Margaret Rachel Baker
1920 - 2014
Margaret Rachel Baker was a native Pensacolian born on July 14, 1920. She went to be with her Lord on May 20, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Baker. She was a long time member of Brownsville Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School and worked as the church cook for 20 years. She served her Lord on Mission trips to Bolivia, Trinidad, Barbados and 5 times to St. Eustatius. She was known as a loving, caring, and kind person who always had a pleasant smile and attitude. For many years she was a worker at the pools for elections.
She was preceded in death by her son, Terry, as well as her parents, Walter and Lillie Mae Powell and her 7 siblings: Estelle Cravey, Ezra Powell, Etha Holland, Elbert Powell, Nolan Powell, Alton Powell, and Lois Nall. She is survived by her son, Melvin Gentry (Mary Lou); daughter, Linda Trawick (Bobby), and daughter-in-law, Theresa Baker. There are also 5 grandchildren, Marlon Gentry, Margie Addison, Brian Baker, Tara Jones, and Rachel Williams, as well as 8 great-grandchildren. She also has many nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 with the visitation at 10am and the memorial service at 11am. The service will be conducted by Rev. John Pavlus, pastor of New Beginnings Baptist Church (formerly Brownsville Baptist Church).
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Hands of Compassion International (P. O. Box 470944, Lake Monroe, FL 32747) or Emerald Coast Hospice (1555 N. Palafox, Pensacola, FL 32501).
