MINNIE LEE SAWYER
Minnie Lee Sawyer, 92, of Cantonment, FL, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2014, in Sacred Heart Hospital. Her children and many other family members were at her side when she gently slipped from this temporary life into an eternity in Heaven.
Born in Robertsdale, AL, in 1922, she was, in turn, a dairy farmer's daughter during the Great Depression, a teenage bride, a loving mother of a large family, employed 30 years at Chemstrand/Monsanto (from which she retired), grandmother to 12, great-grandmother to 18, and mother-in-law to 3 loving "sons". In all this, she was the family anchor of faith, love, and determination through good and bad times.
Her husband, Clyde H. Sawyer preceded her in death by 11 years. She is survived by 4 daughters and 3 sons-in-law: Elizabeth and Devon Rhodes of Cantonment; Anita and David Dibb of Florence, SC; Jacqualine and Mason Beane of Cantonment; Peggy Sawyer of Cantonment; and two sons and daughters-in-law: Clyde H. Sawyer II and wife, Chong, of Jonesboro, GA; and Robert A. Sawyer and wife, Kumiko, of Acworth, GA. She is also survived by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-greats.
Minnie was a long-time member of Gonzalez Baptist Church, where their children grew up and most were married.
The funeral will be 12 noon, Monday, August 18, at Pensacola Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (on Pine Forest Road). Visitation with the family will be at 11:00 AM, in the same location, just before the services, and burial will be in Pensacola Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
