1917-2012

Stephen V. Makuta, Pensacola, Florida died on July 11, 2012. He was born in Jeddo, Pennsylvania on October 25, 1917, the son of the late Stephen and Theresa Makuta. In 1937 he married Helen Hollick of Jeddo. In 1997 they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. He served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he worked for Duplan Textile Corporation and Stonecutter Mills. In 1956, he joined Playtex and served as vice president of manufacturing/domestic operations. He resided in Dover, DE and Newnan, GA until 1964 when he was promoted to director of operations in the United Kingdom. In 1966 he became vice president of sewn products in the United States, Puerto Rico and Barbados. Stephen retired in 1975 and did consulting for Bank of New York, Virginia Mills in North Carolina, BVD Corporation, New York and Olga Corporation, Van Nuys CA where he accepted the position of vice president in 1982. During his retirement he and his late wife, Helen, lived in Sun City Center, FL and the last 15 years at Azalea Trace in Pensacola, FL, which they both loved. His wife preceded him in death in 2002. Surviving are his daughter, Joan Winston and son-in-law Robert Winston, Scottsdale, AZ; three grandchildren, Christopher Winston, Spokane, WA; Jennifer Anderson and husband Rod, Pewaukee, WI, Tammy Dibble and husband Robb, Redmond, WA; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Fritz Makuta and wife Carmella; sisters-in-law Rosanna Makuta and Gloria Makuta; nephews Dr Carl Makuta, Dr Ronald Makuta, John Makuta, Stephen Makuta all of Hazelton; several great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Albert, Hazelton. He loved his family and will be missed by all. He will be buried at a private service Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Florida with a memorial service at Azalea Trace at a later date.
