Agnes Mae Merchant Gilmer- Becktold

Agnes Mae Merchant Becktold, 86, resident of 112 N. Trout Street, widow of Robert Raymond Becktold, Sr., passed away on the morning of Saturday, March 29, 2014, at Self Regional Medical Center.

Born June 15, 1927, in Bluff Springs, Escambia County, Florida, she was a daughter of the late John Messer Merchant and Lily Mae Capers Merchant. She was a private patient sitter and served many families over the years.

She was a member of Lakeside Pentecostal Holiness Church where Gary Davis serves as pastor.

She was twice married, first to the late Fred Petit Gilbert. Both her husbands were of Michigan. She was the last of 10 siblings and the last member of her immediate family.

Surviving are a daughter, Catherine Diane Gilbert Swindell and husband George of Greenwood; three sons, Daniel Frederick Gilbert and wife Chris of Michigan, Anthony John Gilbert and wife Nita of Colorado and Robert Raymond Becktold, Jr. of Greenwood; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be conducted at a later date so that family can gather to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646.
