Howard James Greer

1934-2014

Howard James Greer, 79, of Milton, Florida passed away Friday April 11, 2014 with loved ones by his side.

Howard was born on May 20, 1934 in Olean, New York. He was raised in Olean until 1963 when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy with his first station in Memphis, TN. It was there that he met the love of his of life, the former Patricia Gale Phillips, with whom he just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He retired from the Navy after 20 years of service. He then retired from Beechcraft after 20 years of service. His hobbies were reading, bird watching from his back porch, and playing his trombone. After family, his greatest joy was being a member of the Pensacola Civic Band for 22 years.

Howard was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Jesse Greer, a sister Jean (Greer) Kent, and a brother, Charles Greer.

Howard is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gale of Milton, FL; a daughter, Lisa Greer Schoeneck (John), of Chesapeake, VA; a son, Kenneth James Greer (Narissa) of Milton, FL; four grandchildren, Daniel Schoeneck, Abigail Schoeneck, Claire Schoeneck, and Miranda Greer. He also leaves behind a sister, Betty (Greer) Simmons, of Olean, NY, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and many close friends that he loved and considered family.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 15, 2104 from 6pm-8pm at Lewis Funeral Homes, Inc. 6405 Highway 90 West, Milton, FL 32570.

Funeral services will be held at 10am, Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the funeral home with Reverend Richard Schamber, officiating. Procession will follow to Barrancas National Cemetery. Howard will be laid to rest with full military honors.

Pallbearers will be Charles Eubanks, Rick Godwin, Jesse Grant, Harold Miller, Patrick Nunnally, and Vern Rachal. Honorary Pallbearer Pete Nunnally.

The Greer family would like to thank the dedicated staff at DaVita, Santa Rosa Dialysis. A special thank you to his doctors, especially Dr. Dennis Mayeaux and Dr. Maged Nashed.
