1922 - 2014

Donald Owen Newton, 91, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2014 at Azalea Trace Retirement Community. Donald was born in Combined Locks, Wisconsin, on June 10, 1922. He graduated from Appleton High School in Appleton, Wisconsin. He served in the Army from 1943-1945 and fought in the European theater during World War II. In 1951 Donald received his Bachelor of Science degree from Lawrence College in Appleton, Wisconsin. He worked for 35 years as a packaging engineer for St. Regis Paper Company and later Champion.

Donald was active in Boy Scouting as an adult for over 35 years. He was Scoutmaster of Troop 20, sponsored by Allen Memorial United Methodist Church in Cantonment, Florida. He held other leadership positions in the Boy Scouts of America organization. He was given the Silver Beaver Award in recognition of his distinguished service to Boy Scouting. Donald was a longtime member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church and was active in various ministries of the church. He also pursued his interests in travel, fishing, hunting, and gardening.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin A. and Bertha (Levknecht) Newton; sisters, Carol and Marian; brothers, Harold, Delmar, Kenneth, and Christian. Donald is survived by his wife, Arlene; sons, Clifford, Richard, and Ralph; daughter, Katherine; 7 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 10:00am at AZALEA TRACE RETIREMENT COMMUNITY, 10100 Hillview Dr., Pensacola, FL 32514. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Cokesbury United Methodist Church or Covenant Hospice.
