Roger Eldridge Thom
Major Roger E. Thom, United States Air Force (Retired) passed away on April 23, 2014. Roger was born in Oelwein, IA on June 23, 1934.
Major Thom was passionate about airplanes. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force for twenty years. He then worked another seventeen years as airport manager in Dover, Delaware. One of this most memorable assignments was flying the first Atlas Missiles to Patrick Air Force Base in Florida on a C133.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Jemima Thom; one sister, Gayle Copenhaver.
He was a loving husband and is survived by his wife Jo Ann (Schuette) Thom of 53 years and his brother George Thom. He was the proud father of two children: Connie Mahoney and husband Melvin; Douglas Thom and wife Venus. He will also be remembered by his grandchildren: Ryan Mahoney, Conner Mahoney, Jordan Thom, Jacob Thom and Haley Godwin as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A memorial service will be will be held at Stanley Union Church in Iowa at a later date.
The Thom family would like to give special thanks to Selective Services and West Florida hospital for their assistance in caring for Roger.
