Roy Cornell Greene
Roy fought a brave battle to remain on this earth, but lost his fight on Saturday, May 3, 2014. He was a beloved son, husband, father, grandfather, cousin and friend to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
Born in Willimantic, CT in 1937, Roy lived on the edge until he moved to Bayonne, NJ where he met and later married his soul-mate, Beverly Lue Whiting. Following their move to Delaware, Roy and Bev relocated to Pensacola in 1999. Roy loved to take her to the fairs, to the casinos and to the many country music shows throughout the area. He worked as an OTR Driver for a moving company for many years and then worked at WalMart for nearly 20 years until his recent retirement.
Roy loved to sing, joke and tell stories, and was a published poet. And, to the pride of all who loved him, he was a recovering alcoholic who had just celebrated his 30th anniversary of being dry.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alvin Greene and Grace Lowman, by his brother, Bryant, by a daughter, Sherry, and by his soul-mate, Bev. He is survived by four children: Roy Greene, Jr. (Paul Dow) of Milford, MA; Tom Greene (Angela) of Norwich, CT; Dan Greene of Manchester, CT and Kelli Montalvo-Greene (Angie Montalvo) of EastHampton, MA. Roy also had four grandchildren: Jacqueline, Thomas, Morgan and Hunter, and three first cousins - Mary Lou Nye of Willimantic, CT Barbara Gonshor (Peter) of Gulf Breeze, FL and Robert James Slate of Florida and Connecticut.
Roy's request to be cremated is being honored. A Memorial "celebration" of His Life will be held on Tuesday, May 27th at 10:00 AM at the Oak Lawn Funeral Home at 619 New Warrington Rd in Pensacola with burial of his Ashes to follow at the Myrtle Grove Cemetery. It is desired that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his name to the
