Margaret Davidson Duty

Obituary Condolences

Margaret Davidson Duty, 92, of Pensacola passed away on May 13, 2014. Known as Peggy to her Pensacola friends and co-workers, she had lived here for 62 years. She was a native of Tennessee, where her family called her Margaret.

As a faithful member of Warrington Baptist Church, Peggy taught the girls fifth grade Sunday School class for 31 years and later served as the teacher for the ladies adult class. In addition, she worked with YWA girls and served her church on committees and wherever she was needed.

Peggy retired from U.S. Government service after 27 years, during which time she worked in Norfolk, Virginia, the Canal Zone during World War II, and in Pensacola at the Naval Air Medical Institute. Her work included being among the first to operate the Univac Computer System at NAMI. Because of repeated exposure to the low room temperatures required by early computers, she developed Reynaud's Syndrome and had to take a medical retirement in 1979.

Peggy was preceded in death by Thomas Dewane Duty, her beloved husband of 63 years, and their cherished infant son, Dewane Samuel Duty. Also preceding her passing are her parents, Sam and Ruth Davidson, and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Irene and Harold Rigsby and Jaunita and Bill Smith.

She is survived by her nieces, Pam (Steve) Boaz and Joanee Kazmier, as well as her great nephew Michael (Suzanne), and his father, Paul Smith, Jr.

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Florida Baptist Children's Home, 2300 Bartram Rd, Jacksonville, FL, 32207 or the Tennessee Baptist Children's Home, 1310 Franklin Road, Brentwood, TN 37027.

The family will receive friends at 12 noon on Monday, May 19 before the 1:00 p.m. service, both to be held at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, 619 New Warrington Road with Pastor Jake Knight officiating. Deacons of Warrington Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be at 2:00 p.m. in Barrancas National Cemetery, Naval Air Station Pensacola.
